JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Clashes broke out Thursday between Palestinian worshipers and Israeli forces in the al-Aqsa compound following a visit by a right-wing Israeli MK, locals said.

Witnesses told Ma'an that Likud MK Moshe Feiglin and a number of other right-wing politicians entered the mosque compound via the Moroccan Gate and toured the courtyards.

Worshipers shouted "Allah Akbar" at the group before Israeli forces raided the compound and began assaulting them with clubs.

In response, young Palestinians began throwing stones at the Knesset members, forcing them to leave the compound.

Several worshipers and Shariah Law students sustained bruises and one of them was treated at a clinic in the Aqsa compound.

An Israeli police spokeswoman said two Palestinians were detained after throwing stones at Moshe Feiglin.

The controversial Likud MK has stated in the past that Palestinians in Israel should be relocated and there is no such thing as a Palestinian people.

Due to the sensitive nature of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Israel maintains a compromise with the Islamic trust that controls the compound -- overseen by Jordan -- to restrict the area for Muslim prayers.

Israeli forces, however, regularly escort Jewish visitors to the site, often leading to tension with Palestinians.

The compound, which sits just above the Western Wall plaza, houses both the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosque and is the third holiest site in Islam.

It is also venerated as Judaism's most holy place as it sits where Jews believe the First and Second Temples once stood. The Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

Why is Temple Mount only for Muslims, surely Jews can also worship there, as its holy to them as well.

Maan get your facts right there is no evidence not even in the bible of the actual site of the temple. This is a act of terror by Israel.

The Al Aqsa sites belongs to Muslims and Muslims only. There is no evidence of where the temple was located AND the world should know. It was NOT Muslims who dispelled Jews from the holy land. It was NOT Muslims who destroyed any temple. It was NOT Muslims who used the area as a rubbish dump. YES Muslims rebuilt the area to its present glory. And YES it was Muslims who allowed Jews back to the Holy land!

Feiglin's visit is not for praying purposes . It is to incite and to provoke. Persons like him should be confronted....

This MKs don't go there to visit there go there to provoke and humiliate the Palestinians. It's disgraceful and shows Israel for the evil that it is.

@ 4, 5 so when tourists visit and the Palestinians throw rocks what do you say abut that

I find it interesting that you say the Temple Mount is not mentioned in the Bible because guess what, Jerusalem is not mentioned at all in the Koran. Not once. In other words, Muslims have no biblical connection, or any connection at all for that matter, to Jerusalem.

@7 Have you read the Quran. Jerusalem IS mentioned in the Quran. I suggest YOU read Jerusalem in the Quran. The truth is our there, no matter how much you try and hide it!

Feiglin's getting paid well,in welfare checks,to INCITE,& lay the ground work for the "coming",from US/South African Jewish&Christian Zionist money, channelled thru' the Jewish National Fund(JNF).This is the MOST radical neo-Nazionist Knesset for DECADES.All they ned is the swastika hanging over the speakers chair? KKKnut-case thugs occupy the Knesset,& the majority of Israeli Jews are HAPPY with that deja Vu scenario?? Bye-bye,the last vestiges of Israeli democracy. Craaaaazzy!

@6/@11 Right wing Knesset members accompanied by armed thugs are not tourists and do not behave like tourists. I've seen videos of them. On the other hand, Palestinians have WELCOMED friends, including Jews coming in peace to visit and work in the West Bank. Those friends ... including, as I said, Jews, felt much more threatened and some WERE threatened by the IDF occupying thugs.

#11 "@ 9. did you even read this article?? fourth paragraph" You mean, "In response, young Palestinians began throwing stones at the Knesset members, forcing them to leave the compound."? #9 said, "Palestinians don't throw stones at tourists..." TOURISTS, john p, not "Knesset members" with armed guards involved in deliberate provocations. But, you know, you might have a point, if by "tourists" you mean foreigners visiting from another country, in this case, really badly behaved ones,

23/03/2014 01:15
(contd.) abrasive and disrespectful, like Moshe Feiglin. If so, it seems Palestinians DO throw rocks at "tourists". But it's nice you ADMIT that's what they ARE...Feiglin, Yehuda Glick, Uri Ariel et al. as they "ascend the Temple Mount", "Judaism's holiest place": obnoxious Israeli "tourists", barging brazenly (and illegally) into a foreign country and throwing their weight around where they are neither welcome nor belong.

#10 "...Palestinians throw rocks and firebombs and rockets at Israeli civilians. That is not "resistance" - it is a war crime." If the "Israeli civilians" are armed invaders settled illegally in the occupied territory of a neighbouring state with the avowed intention of gradually taking more and more until it's ALL theirs how is throwing rocks (etc.) NOT resistance? And who is actually committing the war crime? (sigh).
