CAIRO (Ma’an) – An Egyptian officer was killed and three others were injured Sunday in a military attack against a bus carrying soldiers near Sheikh Zuweid city in North Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian security sources told Ma'an that the victim was a bus driver identified as Tahami Sayyid Tuhami. The sources added that the bus was headed to Rafah city.

Three wounded officers were evacuated to a military hospital in the nearby el-Arish city. Medics said all three sustained serious injuries.

Security sources say the bus was shot at from two pickup trucks. The assailants, suspected of being affiliated to the al-Qaida-inspired Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group, fled the scene.
