GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were injured in overnight Israeli airstrikes on targets in the Gaza Strip, medics said Friday.

The health ministry in Gaza said a 1-year-old and a 30-year-old man arrived injured at Shifa Hospital after being hit with rocket shrapnel in the al-Maghraqa area in southern Gaza.

Israeli forces targeted 10 sites in Gaza in 15 attacks overnight, hours after the Israeli army said four rockets landed in open areas in the south of Israel.

One airstrike targeted a washing machine factory in Jabaliya refugee camp that caused a fire.

The air force also targeted two sites belonging to Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades south of Gaza City.

Additionally, they targeted the former al-Zahraa police station and a blacksmith workshop in Jabaliya.

In a statement, Israel's military said its aircraft targeted four "terror sites" in the northern Gaza Strip and one additional site in the central Gaza Strip. Direct hits were confirmed, it said.

It also said that Palestinian snipers fired at security personnel near a security fence in the north, causing damage to an armored vehicle. Several hours later, four rockets struck southern Israel, it said.

"Civilians in southern Israel were forced to begin this month with an unacceptable barrage of rockets. Hamas has a responsibility to cease and prevent acts of aggression emanating from the Gaza Strip," said army spokesman Peter Lerner.

He added: "The IDF will retaliate, reciprocate and when required initiate the use of force in order to defend the civilians of the State of Israel from these unlawful terrorist actions."

Israeli war crimes once again. The international community need to address Israel's chemical weapons arsenal of phosphorous gas that it has amassed and used. Israel is the true tyrant in the Middle East and no one else

'...One airstrike targeted a washing machine factory in Jabaliya refugee camp that caused a fire...' Perhaps in the spirit of the 'terror kindergarten' they closed a few years ago, the Israelis could claim the factory was manufacuting 'terror washing machines.' Hey, they've claimed the Palestinians have thrown washing machines at them. Clearly, washing machines are a deadly tool of terror. They do mysteriously eat socks. That can't be denied.

' Hamas has a responsibility to cease and prevent acts of aggression emanating from the Gaza Strip.' Actually, unless and until Israel recognizes Hamas as the legitimate government of Gaza and ceases to commit acts that imply Israeli sovereignty over the Strip, no, Hamas isn't responsible for anything but its own actions. I realize the concept is alien to the spirit of their movement, but even Zionists can't have their cake and eat it too.

I appreciate your sarcastic comments about washing machines, however you should note that the so called "washing machine shop" is just a front. These people with mechanical experience, use their knowledge to produce rockets and bombs which are targeting "innocent civilians" (which is a war crime in itself). So in future please, before commenting understand whats going on in the middle east and stop being so NAIVE

It took eight paragraphs to get to the reason for the airstrike - four rockets launched at Israel from Gaza Thursday night. If those commenting do not like the consequences, they should demand Hamas and its proxies stop launching missiles.
