BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Israeli authorities on Thursday morning announced a decision to confiscate about 1,000 dunams (250 acres) of private Palestinian land in the town of al-Khader south of Bethlehem.

Deputy mayor of al-Khader Ismail Issa told Ma’an that high-level Israeli military commanders and Civil Administration officers along with a group of settlers toured private Palestinian fields in areas known locally as Khallat al-Fahm, al-Zaytouna and al-Absiyya.

They left yellow posters reading “State properties! No entry,” he said.

Issa added that the Israeli officers dropped copies of a statement which explained that 984 dunams of private land was slated for confiscation. Palestinian farmers who wish to contest the decision can object within 45 days, according to the statement.

The Palestinian liaison department has been notified of the Israeli decision, added Issa.

Separately, Israeli forces escorted a large bulldozer which leveled private Palestinian lands in the al-Nahla Hill area south of Bethlehem.

It wasn't Arab-owned land. No proof was brought by those Arabs who had claimed it; no deeds, no proof of farming for more than 7 years, etc.

#2 Take a wild guess as to why it wasn't farmed for more than 7 years. Here, I'll help you. I might have something to do with the barbed wire, separation wall, "border" police, military checkpoints or "close military zones", violent armed settlers...any of this ringing a bell? Make it impossible for farmers to farm, and then say that they were never farmers and that the farmland isn't theirs. Bam! Its so easy! Why didn't I think of it?

President Abbass recently said that Jesus was a palestinian because He was born in Bethlehem. Israelis on the other hand have always expressed the desire to maintain sovereignty over it as the birth place of Christ, so now that they have started the move, Abbass needs to tell the world that Jesus wasn't a palestinian.

I just can't understand how a people who had their properties confiscated and were moved into ghettos can rationalize doing similar things to others. Have we learned so little from the horrors of the 20th century? States cannot be built on ethnicity and persecution, segregation and theft is wrong no matter who does it!
