CAIRO (Ma'an) -- An Egyptian police officer and a soldier were shot dead Sunday morning by unidentified gunmen on the main road between Cairo and Suez, Egyptian security sources said.
A joint police and army force patrolling the desert road between Cairo and Suez had signaled to a suspected vehicle to stop, the sources explained, when two gunmen stepped out of the car with machine guns.
The gunmen immediately opened fire at the patrol killing a captain identified as Ashraf al-Qazzaz and the soldier, who was a new recruit, identified as Alaa Ahmad Farahat.
The attackers fled the scene.
