PARIS (AFP) -- The number of French Jews emigrating to Israel rose nearly four-fold in the first quarter of the year and could touch a record in 2014, a Jewish organisation said Monday.

The Jewish Agency for Israel, a global body responsible for the immigration and absorption of Jews into Israel, said 1,407 people left France for Israel between January and March against 353 people a year earlier.

"This phenomenon is speeding up" said Ariel Kandel, the head of the Jewish Agency's French chapter.

"We will not finish the year with four times more the number than in 2013 but if the current rhythm continues, there will be more than 5,000 French people leaving for Israel, something that has never happened since its creation in 1948," he said.

Kandel told AFP that the reasons for the hike in numbers were a "climate of anti-Semitism" and the prevailing gloomy economic situation in France.

France's Jewish community is one of the largest in Europe and pegged at around 500,000.

The number of French Jews leaving for Israel has been growing steadily. A total of 1,907 left in 2012 and it rose to 3,280 in 2013.

More than three million people have emigrated to Israel since 1948, including some 90,000 from France.

I doubt whether that will counter the exodus of young Jews from Israel to EU/US in the"brain-flight"or conscience-flight! And Occupied Palestine's demographics will continue to grow,Zionism or not! Uri Avnery speaks very truthfully on"ascendents"&"descendents",even tho' ZionistIsrael is no fine example of a high, shining, citadel.Just a schizoid, xenophobic, apartheid theocratic walled-off state, in a pluralistic world!

Anti-Jewish feeling is alive and well in France. Hence the migration to the Jewish State of Israel.

Just as French settlers migrated to colonial settlements in Algeria. And just as the FLN and the anti-colonial movement there forced them back to Europe where they belong, the settlers' time in Palestine will come.

For me its hard to believe that French Jews or any Jew for that matter immigrate to Israel unless they are paid with incentives to relocate and increase the Jewish population and probably they are below the poor level and encourage to leave to colonize the settlements. Israel has a number of Africans that immigrate to Israel for work, food and lodging and if they weren't Jews then they are now.

How many of the expected French Jewish immigrants to Israel are Black? Remember the racist Zionist attitude in Israel against the Black African Jewish people and those who were denied entry to Israel?

It's too bad so many are so concerned to use this as grist for their mill -- some facts would be helpful. For example, how many of these 'French' Jews are actually descendents of Moroccan and Algerian Jews -- and are they leaving because they find themselves on the one hand increasingly ostracized by white Frenchmen as 'Arabs' and on the other hand, exposed to hostility from descendants of Muslim Moroccans and Algerians? It's a thought -- but I doubt if we'll ever find out through the noise.
