GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said on Saturday that "there is no pulling back from the Palestinian decision to end the division," stressing that both Hamas and Fatah remained committed to the national unity agreement signed last month.

The Hamas leader's statement came after days of impasse in the formation of the national unity government, with both sides saying that disputes remain in relation to the position of foreign minister as well as the ministry of prisoners' affairs.

Haniyeh admitted that there are some differences between Hamas and Fatah, but clarified said that both sides are in "constant contact through the negotiations file."

"In the stages of national liberation, it is necessary to work through our common interests in order to give the public something to look forward to," he said.

A national unification deal was signed between the two main Palestinian political parties on April 23, promising to form a government of national unity within five weeks.

The deal ended seven years of political division, which began in 2007 after clashes broke out in Gaza a year after Hamas won legislative elections.

Hopefully, the United States Congress will pull all funding for the Palestinians now that the PA has joined with Hamas.

@1) Not realy. Kerry was there to negotiate a peace agreement and knowing full well all Palestinians were included. If the Palestinians form their government that will be the end of Israel, Netanyahu's government will fall. They going at it the wrong way not concerning about their own people just because they don't want a Palestinian State right along with them. The best way to beat Israel for the Palestinian is politically, and so far they doing a good job at it.

@1) Rondo Mondo - Hopefully the reverse will happen & US Congress will recognise the benefits of the PA & Hamas becoming unified. But then if that happened you wouldn't have anything to crow about, would you.

There may be No pulling back from the Unity decision, but There is also No pulling forward either, since most West Bank Palestinians now depend on international donations, just like Refugee camp Palestinians depend on UNRWA for everything, and Donations will end when terrorist Hamas joins the government, and Not only "the United States Congress will pull all funding for the" PA !!

#1 So be it. If the Palestinians are punished for having one unified government that represents them and their interests as a people and leads them in their struggle for self-determination, so be it. We all know who the real terrorists are...U$A & I$real.

* ONCE, Palestinians had one unified government and were Not punished. This difference was that the government made Three promises: 1- to RENOUNCE TERRORISM and Violence, 2- to REMOVE CALLS OF ARMED RESISTANCE AND ISRAEL'S DESTRUCTION from the PLO Charter (which it still hasn't), and 3- to NEGOTIATE AN END TO THE CONFLICT. * NOW, the unified government will be composed of groups, like HAMAS, that WILL NEVER MAKE SUCH PROMISES, and world governments will Not support such a government !!

* WORLD GOVERNMENTS SHOULD endorse the new Palestinian government, and simultaneously also inform the new government, that Unless it's new Hamas component does three things: - Renounces "Armed Resistance" & Terrorism, - Promises to remove calls for "Israel's Destruction" from it's Charter, and - Accepts Negotiations as the Route to Palestinian Statehood, they will * END ALL FINANCIAL & POLITICAL SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE.

#1 "Hopefully, the United States Congress will pull all funding for the Palestinians now that the PA has joined with Hamas." But, RM, Hamas has "joined" with the PA, not vice versa. Hamas has come in from the cold and will join a unity government that will RENOUNCE extremism and violence and recognise Israel. Why isn't that GOOD news? For Israel and the region? For security and peace? And WARRANT US aid? And why are the really mean ones always from Canada? I mean, you make Outlier look classy.
