HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces have forbidden mosque leaders from playing the call for prayer through loudspeakers at the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron 53 times in May under the pretext that it bothers nearby Jewish settlers, the Palestinian ministry of endowment said.

Hundreds of extremist Jewish settlers have taken over homes in Hebron's Old City, and Israeli authorities use their presence in the southern West Bank city as an excuse to limit the ability of the mosque to play the call five times a day, according to Islamic custom.

The ministry of endowment's Hebron office said in a statement that banning call for prayer "is a clear violation of freedom of worship which all international conventions maintain."

In April, Israeli authorities prevented the mosque from playing the call to prayer 60 times.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live in settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in contravention of international law.

Quite right too, is it only the Islamic faith that is so insecure, that they need to amplify their muezzins call to prayer.

Who needs loudspeakers? Israeli-Zionism has no legitimate/human right to STOP YOU!Every Palestinian, whether Muslim or Christian,& their Jewish activist friends who are normal&sane, should head for the rooftops & call out loud. I'm American Christian Protestant & I'd stand by the Palestinians side at every prayer call. You don't NEED loud-speakers to call your prayers.
Occupy the rooftops! Wake them up..LOUD! That's your right! Screw the bigotted occupiers.

Bunch of crap. Calling for prayer shouldn't annoy anyone unless a Muslim don't want to pray. And how about music getting loud, or how about churches bell, or blowing a car horn. A poor excuse to disturb Muslims and their praying customs because some settlers are getting too Jewishy. In Europe they have Mosques that call for prayer, in the US they also have Mosques that call for prayer. How about if the Palestinians get their own State, would Israel object to their call of prayer?.

Banning Muslim call to prayer in Sweden is forbidden, and you can't do anything about it. That's not a violation of freedom of worship!

The call to prayer should be as nature intended, a voice raised to the heavens without amplification.

So let me get this straight. You build an illegal home in close proximity to my house on a piece land that's not yours, and then when I wanna make a call for prayer like I've been doing for 14 centuries, you say it bothers you and the Israeli government steps in and says "yea the settler is right. You can't do that." WOW.

The only solution is to make it louder do that it can be heard from further away and so that it increases annoyance among settlers.

The best solution would be for the settlers to move to Israel, leaving Hebron & the Ibrahimi Mosque for the Palestinians. That way everyone would be happy (especially as part of a final status solution). The adhan (call to prayer) sounds so lovely, especially at dawn.

If the Jewish terrorists don't like living in a Muslim country let them go back to Israel. It is their "homeland" after all.

8,9...Or perhaps Israelis will follow the Arab model and simply raze the mosques, as happened to so many synagogues in Arab countries during the last century. I really think both sides should work together to find an accommodation each can accept.
