BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in the northern West Bank late Monday, Israeli media and the army said.

The Israeli news site Ynet reported that a Palestinian gunman near the Tapuach (Zaatara) checkpoint in southern Nablus opened fire at an Israeli police officer, hitting him in the leg.

Israeli soldiers returned fire, killing the Palestinian, Ynet said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed the incident, saying that a border policeman was lightly wounded by the gunfire and that soldiers responded by shooting and killing the man.

The man's family later identified the man as Alaa Muhammad Awad Audah, 30, from the town of Huwwara south of Nablus.

This is the first terrorist attack for the new Unity government to either: -1- condemn, or -2- take credit for.

A Palestinian gunman in a car opened fire on an Israeli border guard checkpoint at the Tapuach checkpoint outside Nablus before dawn Tuesday, June 3. The soldiers returned fire and killed the gunman, after one was hit in the leg. It was the second encounter in four days at the same spot between an Israeli security force and a terrorist.

The Israeli political-security cabinet decided Monday that the new Palestinian unity government sworn in by Doctor Mahmoud Abbass in Ramallah this afternoon will be held responsible for every act of terror committed against Israel – whether it originates in the Gaza Strip or Judea and Samaria.

If anyone of us were treated as the Palestinians are I wonder how desperate we would become, it's so sad that so many lives have been taken I don't care if it's palestinian Israeli Jewish Christine or Muslim . so many who just want peace to have land to call home. Hope someone caught the killing on camera. It wouldn't surprise me if the story told by the Israelis that the Palestinian man opened fire is not a lie just like the lie they tried to pass off about the two Palestinian teens killed by an Israeli police force two weeks ago. The lie that the Israelis told was that the two teens killed were attacking Israeli police. But a hidden camera revealed that the two teens were at a peaceful demonrstration and was never a threat to the Israeli forces.
