RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – Rami Hamdallah, prime minister of the national unity government, said that it would take on national responsibilities that depend on legislative and presidential votes.

Hamdallah said that Shawki al-Ayasa is the minister of prisoners’ ministry, and that it would be managed by the president and the PLO.

He highlighted that the new government would call upon former PA civil servants to go back to their jobs.

Since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip, the PA asked public sector employees who used to work in Gaza-based institutions and offices to stay at home and not to work with a Hamas-run government.

He added, in a news conference that preceded the first meeting of the unity government, that it was committed to all national agreements signed by PLO, the president, and to international political initiatives and non-violence.

Hamdallah said that the government was willing to organize free and democratic elections, and that it would work to provide services for all residents to build the health, education, economy, agriculture, power and water sectors.

He called upon the international community to acknowledge the government and persist on supporting the Palestinian leadership so that its government would be able to face all political challenges especially Israeli policies that disturb the political and economic situation in the area.

Hamdallah called upon all Palestinian social institutions and the institutions of the private sector to work together nationally in order to face political and economic challenges.
