BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Friday congratulated Egyptian president Abdul Fatah al-Sisi on his recent election victory.

Netanyahu telephoned Sisi to congratulate him and wished the Egyptians a peaceful and stable future, a statement from the Israeli PM's office said.

Sisi took 96.9 percent of the vote in a recent election held nearly a year with less than 50 percent turnout after he ousted Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi from power.

Sisi's only rival, leftist Hamdeen Sabbahi, won less than four percent of the vote, while the Muslim Brotherhood and other parties boycotted the election.
