HEBRON (Ma'an) -- A commercial strike was announced by shopkeepers in Hebron on Monday as Israel tightened its closure of the city in search for three missing youths.

A Ma'an reporter said all shops and stores remain closed in Hebron with streets virtually empty as the city shows solidarity with Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike.

The city was subject to widespread overnight raids with at least 40 people detained, including several senior Hamas politicians.

Hebron's governor, Kamel Hmeid, urged the international community to intervene against what he called "inhumane" acts by Israel's military in the city.

On Monday, Israeli forces broke into a cemetery in the Hebron town of Taffuh and raided several neighborhoods.

Thousands of Israeli soldiers have been deployed in the Hebron area following the the suspected kidnapping of three Israeli youths in the Gush Etzion area.

Over 150 Palestinians have been detained in the ongoing arrest campaign.

Bravo Hebron! I am always in awe of the brave Palestinians who patiently continue their oppressed existance, amid so much Zionist hatred&racism.Palestinians have the, relatively, peaceful courage,compassion,once-witnessed(long ago)in oppressed Jews, when facing same racist/bigotry!Before they raised the flag of Zionism over Israel & hid their heads in the scaremongered sand, while Zionism does same toMuslim/Christian Palestinians,as was done in WW2.SUMUD Palestine!

Good. Closed shops mean less people on the streets and greater freedom of movement for the Israeli forces.

If Israel expect that sort of violence will bring them back that if they were kidnap they are wrong. How Israel expect the teennagers will be free if in fact they were kidnap killing Palestinians and storm their houses. Is but an excuse from Israel to react to the unity by having the teenagers kidnap. That would give them a better reason than objection to the unity which the Palestinians have all the right to do. Too close from the unity to have any Palestinian faction involve.

My thoughts and prayer are with the people of Palestine as the grip tightens.
