RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "deep disappointment" on Thursday after an Israeli was elected as vice-head of the UN's fourth committee, also known as the Special Political and Decolonization Committee.

Mordehai Amihai, who was nominated by the Group of Western European and Other States, was elected Vice-Chair with 74 votes.

The UN General Assembly held a secret ballot after a request was made by Arab States in protest over Israel's nomination as vice-chair.

The PA foreign ministry said that the election of Israel to such a post would only encourage it to continue committing excessive violations of Palestinian rights and to maintain the occupation.

Instead of electing Israel as vice-chair of a decolonization committee, the international community "should have called Israel to account over the crimes it practices against the Palestinian people."

The statement added that it is "disappointing" that Israel will play a leading role in a committee whose mission is related to decolonization, peace-keeping and human rights while Israel itself continues to deny millions of Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homeland from which they were forcibly displaced.

Israel also continues to detain, kill and violate the human rights of Palestinians, contrary to international law, the statement added.

Now I've seen it all. Israel vice-chair of the DECOLONIZATION COMMITTEE when virtually everything they do is with the intention of displacing and COLONIZING Palestinian land. Maybe Greece's Golden Dawn Party should also be elected to oversee Holocaust Survivor reparations too.

The PA should be used to disappointment - much of it self-inflicted - by now.

Goodbye credibility.

Another nail in the coffin of UN credibility - it's like having the rapist on the parole board deciding his own release.

To Rami #1: Be fair. Why should all the voices be against colonization? And who better to speak for colonization in its most extreme form than Israel? As to electing Golden Dawn to oversee Holocaust Survivor reparations, that's an equally good idea.

See its not "Palestinian Land" because Israel has just as much if not more right to that land as the Palestinians who have only been known as "The Palestinians" since Yasser Arafat formed the PLO in 1964 Before that, no one ever referred to the arabs as Palestinians because Jordan ruled the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Jordan removed whatever Jews there were between 1948 and 1967, so the Israelis have every right to have as much land as they need to survive and prosper.
