HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli soldiers opened fire Sunday morning at a Palestinian truck traveling in Beit Ummar north of Hebron in the southern West Bank, a local spokesman told Ma'an.

Muhammad Ayyad Awad of the Beit Ummar Committee against the Separation Wall and Settlements said that the truck was loaded with building stones when the Israeli military opened fire.

Awad said that as the truck traveled near a local cemetery, Israeli soldiers stepped out of their military vehicles and oepened fire at the truck.

Awad said that the driver confirmed that the soldiers did not signal to him to stop whatsoever.

The truck was headed to an industrial zone in Beit Ummar at the time of the incident.

Israeli forces have maintained a heavy blockade of the Hebron region for the last 10 days, including the presence of Israeli soldiers and checkpoints across the area.

An Israeli military spokesman did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
