Mourners carry the body of Muhammad Tarafi at his funeral in
al-Bireh near Ramallah on June 22, 2014.
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers on Sunday opened fire at Palestinians in al-Bireh near Ramallah as they gathered for the funeral of a man killed by Israeli forces earlier that day, a Ma'an reporter said.

After the funeral procession of Muhammad Tarifi in the Jabal al-Tawil neighborhood, settlers from the Psagot settlement opened fire at mourners, injuring one of them.

When Israeli forces arrived at the scene, clashes broke out as Palestinians hurled rocks at settlers and soldiers.

Soldiers fired stun grenades, tear gas, rubber-coated bullets, and live fire at Palestinians.

The Palestinians then retreated into al-Bireh's Jabal al-Tawil and al-Jinan neighborhoods.

An Israeli military spokeswoman did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Tarif was found dead on the roof of a commercial building in Ramallah early Sunday and an autopsy showed that the victim died of a bullet fired from an M16 assault rifle, used by Israeli forces.

Israeli soldiers were in the area at the time and clashed with Palestinians amid a number of home raids and detentions.

Tarif was the fifth Palestinian shot dead by Israeli forces in the last week, as they continue a massive military campaign in the West Bank in search of three missing Israeli teenagers.

Although Israeli authorities have claimed the youths were kidnapped by Hamas from the Jewish-only settlement of Gush Etzion near Bethlehem, Hamas has denied the charges.

In the 10 days since, Israeli forces have arrested over 400 Palestinians, the majority associated with Hamas, and raided more than 1,000 locations across the West Bank, vowing to "crush" Hamas.

I'll go out on a limb here and predict the Israelis never manage to convict anyone of the attack.

For 'three missing Israeli teenagers,' read 'three missing Israeli settlers.' If you let the Zionists dictate the terminology of the debate, they will continue to manage to appear to be in the right.

Way to go Israel! From the "dream"of a 'Jewish State',to fascist, racist, reality of a neo-nazi Zionist Balkan state.Wow! Global Jewry must be so "proud"of the "soul" &"hope" of "pure" Zionism,brown-shirts(under white shirts)included, since 1947? After all Israel is your moral, spiritual, ethical compass now, right? Or don't you have the courage to publically admit that what Zionism has turned Israel into,is NOT the type of Judaism God &humanity can be truely proud of? Inmates running the asylum!

The wicked acts of so called settlers are causing themselves to be fair game for acts of reprisal.

there is more than a high probability he was shoot by PA security forces responding with live bullets to mob attacking a police station.

@ spb / usa The bullet they took out of the body of Muhammad came from an M16 assault rifle! Since the USA only trades weapons with Israel it can't be PA who shot Muhammad. They don't have this kind of weapons. Also, if the IDF comes in to raid a place the PA disappears from the scene. Which also happened that day...

Stop and collect your thoughts on both sides. Is Hamas entitled to represent the average Palestinian citizen? Are tourists and vising relatives fair game for repirsals? Find the three missing teens and stop the madness. I am an outsider looking in to see blame on everyone's part.

#5 "there is more than a high probability he was shoot by PA security forces responding with live bullets to mob attacking a police station." I don't know about "more than a high probability", southparkbear, but it IS possible, like it's possible the missing students were murdered by a deranged Jew and are under the floorboards somewhere.

#5 , it is possible that the "kidnapping" is an Israeli operation with or without the knowledge of the Israeli government. It could be an operation by the settler movement to ignite IDF retaliation against the PA/Hamas alliance and to mobilize Israeli public opinion against the Palestinians , while they go on with their project of expanding settlements. A settler "Lavon" Affair. Very probable and beneficial to their cause.
