BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli human rights group B'Tselem on Monday called on the Israeli government to refrain from acts of vengeance after the bodies of three missing Israeli teens were found near Hebron.

"B'Tselem cautions the security forces to avoid harming the innocent Palestinian population, or abusing the public atmosphere in Israel with the discovery of the bodies, to impose collective punishment, as was done in the past two weeks as part of the searches," the group said.

"The deliberate harming of an entire civilian population as punishment for the actions of individuals is both illegal and immoral."

The group also warned that Israeli security forces must prepare for possible acts of revenge by settlers.

Earlier, the group strongly condemned the abduction and killing of the three Israeli youths, calling the incident a "grave breach of international humanitarian law, and cannot be justified, regardless of the circumstances."

Israeli forces launched a military search campaign in response, arresting hundreds of Palestinians and shooting five dead. Over 100 were also injured throughout the operation.

A sad fact, many still fancy they live in the Old Testament era... it sickens me to read of the sacrifices made to the seemingly blood thirsty god of that book...sacrificing their own to win their god's favour, to win a war, confiscate land...

I agree with Btselem - it's time to put Hamas leaders on trial for crimes against humanity.

What vengeance? It is the Palestinians that have the right to revenge over 60 years of opression. If and i say IF 3 "israelis" were killed by Palestinians, then that is nothing when compared to the number of Palestinians killed by "israel". May Allah swt take his revenge on zionists and expose their hypocrisy.

Don't be silly. Israel just wouldn't be Israel without 'acts of vengeance' -- and at a wildly disproportionate rate. At a guess, two score or so of appropriate victims will now need to be selected and murdered. Happily, Israel feels no need to be particularly selective when it comes to this sort of thing, so she should manufacture the appropriate pretexts and collect her toll of victims over the next week or so.

So, Israel arrested hundreds of Palestinians and killed five of them, in the process of "searching" for the three Israeli teens. Israel never misses an opportunity to make a bad situation worse.

The overwhelming sympathy extended by the West to Israel over the tragic deaths of three should be extended to the Palestinians for the deaths and destruction committed by Israel during the search for those young men. Israel is determined to be the perpetual victim but where are the powerful voices who would shout from the rooftops about the long and continuing victimhood of the Palestinians. No murder can be justified under any circumstances.

I agree ...just kill the 10 top Hamas leaders..let some new blood into the leader ship...maybe they will be smarter..

-1- IF Israel was "deliberately harming an entire civilian population" THEN 1,000s of Palestinians would be dead, and -2- It is Not "vengeance" to hunt down the recent murderers, or other Islamic militants, that would be future murderers either !!

- Yes, many "Palestinians have been killed by Israel", but essentially none of them were like the 3 Israeli teenage students, that were just peacefully on their way home, by the side of a road, without fighters among them !! - In Comparison, essentially all of Palestinians killed were either involved in terrorism (stone-throwing, bombing, rockets launching, etc.), or they were accidentally hit, when Israel targets terrorists, whose presence among them makes them legitimate military targets !!

-1- If Palestinian militants were Not continually attacking, then Israel would Not actually "be the perpetual victim". -2- Palestinian justify murder (of Jews) under most circumstances, and -3- Israelis first "searching for the" teenagers (Not "young men"), and now their murderers, and later would-be future murderers is "Justifiable", under the circumstances, and NOT a "victimhood of Palestinians" !!!
