WASHINGTON (AFP) -- The United States said Saturday it was "profoundly concerned" over reports that a US citizen detained in Israel was "severely beaten" while in police custody, amid heightened tensions with Palestinians.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the United States "strongly condemn(s) any excessive use of force," in the wake of Tariq Khdeir's case.

"We are calling for a speedy, transparent and credible investigation and full accountability for any excessive use of force," she added in a statement.

As an American which has been following the course of events in Israel/Palestine for decades I do not believe the U S "strongly condemns"anything Israel does These words are hollow empty phrases. What is America going to do about it?What has the U.S. done regarding what Israel has ever done or will continue to do day by day? American politicians live in fear of I$rael. The American population is kept ignorant.PolitIcians and the press continually sell out to Israeli lobby money and propaganda.
