JENIN (Ma’an) – Israeli soldiers set fire Saturday night to car scrap yard in the Jenin-area village of Bartaa al-Sharqiyya, a village councilor said Sunday. .

Tawfiq Qabaha told Ma’an that large numbers of Israeli troops stormed Bartaa al-Sharqiyya shortly after midnight from Bartaa al-Gharbiyya, which is under full Israeli control. Suddenly, he said, soldiers showered the streets with tear gas, stun grenades and flash bombs.

He added that several residents were hurt by tear gas and as a result young men clashed with the invading soldiers. They hurled stones and empty bottles at them.

Qabaha said the soldiers “deliberately” set fire to a scrap car yard in the village’s industrial zone. Soldiers, he said, set fire to used tires then pushed them into the yard causing dozens of scrap cars to catch fire. Firefighters of Bartaa al-Sharqiyya along with volunteers managed to put out the fire.

Israeli forces also stormed Bartaa al-Sharqiyya on Friday night and clashed with local young men.
