RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday called on UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon to form an international committee to investigate Israeli crimes committed against Palestinians, media reported.

The official Palestinian Authority news agency Wafa said that Abbas gave Robert Serry, the UN special coordinator for Mideast peace, a letter to deliver to Ki-Moon on the subject.

"Mohammad Abu Khdeir was burnt alive. Sixteen Palestinians, including children and women were killed during the past two weeks, aside from the ongoing kidnapping attempts and assaults against children," Abbas said, according the Wafa report.

"We all saw through the media the face of Tarek Abu Khdeir distorted with injuries by" Israeli police, he added.

"We are preparing for a set of steps to deter the Israeli aggression and curb settlers' crimes and the ongoing attacks against our people in the besieged Gaza Strip."

The President's remarks come as tensions soar amid riots by Palestinians in protest over the killing of 16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir on Wednesday.

Abu Khdeir's murder is assumed to have been perpetrated by Jewish extremists angry about the recent killing of three Israelis in the West Bank.

Attempt at deflection. People in glass houses should not throw stones.

I think that this move is at best cosmetic and at worst a waste of time. Has Abu Mazen forgotten how many UN resolutions Israel has ignored? Has he forgotten that going to the UN is a futile move when we all know that the American veto is lurking at the security council? If he really seeks results why doesn't he go straight to the ICC where he might get some joy and save us all a lot of heart-ache?

"DETER the Israeli aggression"???..."CURB settlers' crimes"??? deter, curb????????? how weak is that abbassssss?????????? it all needs to be STOPPED PERMANENTLY, not merely deterred and curbed. abbas needs to grow a pair and head to the ICC, or be replaced as soon as possible, he is a master at betraying his people. what a wimp!

the answer to your question is that he is an agent for Israel and the USA. He is a traitor to the Palestinians. He's got his security and his family's security, he's got his fat paycheck and he is a gigantic waste of time and worst of all he's an enabler of all crimes against the Palestinians. Don't think for one minute he's going to give up his perks!..
