BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli Ministry of Defense on Thursday recognized a slain Palestinian youth from Jerusalem as a "victim of terrorism" after his brutal murder by right-wing Jewish extremists.

Muhammad Abu Khdeir, 16, was forced into a car near the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat, covered into gasoline, and burned to death by three Jewish youths on July 2, in what was suspected to be a revenge attack for the kidnapping and death of three Jewish youths the month before.

The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it recognized the "murder ... as a terrorist attack."

"The decision was made as a result of the indictment brought today against the defendants in the murder of the youth, and the findings from the investigation which point to the nationalistic motive of his murder," the statement said.

The three youths accused of the killing have admitted to carrying out the crime, police say.

As a resident of East Jerusalem, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967 but which the country considers part of its territory since a 1980 annexation not recognized by the international community, Abu Khdeir holds Israeli residency but not citizenship.

He is one of the few Palestinians recognized as a "victim of terrorism" by Israel, as the majority of anti-Palestinian violence in the West Bank or Gaza goes unreported or prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

The killing of Abu Khdeir set off days of rioting in East Jerusalem, and underscored a wave of anti-Palestinian violence across Israel in recent months.

Israel did. But did the Palestinians denounced their acts of terrorism against the 3 Israeli teenagers?

'The three youths accused of the killing have admitted to carrying out the crime, police say.' In that case, it's going to be morbidly interesting to see how Israel avoids actually administering an appropriate punishment. After all, in practice, if there is one established principle of Israeli jurisprudence, it is that it is not a serious offense for a Jew to kill a Palestinian.

They also said the settlers boys who burned the family in the car committed an act of terror. And what happened? Nothing, they walk free. It means nothing more than a PR for the world.

How can Palestinians comment on the case of the three Israeli boys, when there is no proof that Palestinians did it. The Zionist extremists who murdered a 16 year boy by burning him to death, are in custody & freely admitted the crime. With regard to the three settlers, no one is in custody, nor has anyone admitted to the killing. However Israel acted as judge & jury from the outset & with no proof, rampaged through W.Bank, collectively punishing. Israel's credibility in world is zero right now.

#5) Collective punishment is an accepted principal enshrined in the laws of many countries. If a gang member murders someone, the whole gang can be punished for the crime. It seems quite reasonable to me that the Palestinian society which fosters and promotes the murder of Jews should bear the same punishment as the murderer they sent to do their collective will.

Nell: Try actually researching before speaking. As the three Jewish students were in the car of their abductors one was able to dial Israel's emergency response #. The police system records all calls and the recording of this call is online. The abductors spoke in Arabic, sang Palestinian chsnts , forensic evidence coneects the two suspects who coincidentally disappeared the day the Jews were abducted. Funny how posters care for the Arab teen while ignoring THREE Jewish deaths. Hypocrites.
