GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Hundreds of Palestinians in southern Gaza fled their homes Friday as Israeli forces launched ground operations in the besieged enclave.

UNRWA spokesperson, Chris Gunness, said that the UN agency is still trying to confirm numbers but said the area of eastern Khan Younis is particularly affected.

The UN agency will provide shelter for those fleeing the violence in the south, with over 22,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza currently staying in UNRWA facilities around Gaza City and northern areas.

"UNRWA again appeals to all sides to exercise maximum restraint and to respect obligations under international humanitarian law to protect civilians. We also call on the parties to respect the inviolability of UN premises and property," Gunness added.

UNRWA is hiding weapons for Hamas in its facilities. When one such place, a "vacant" school, was discovered, UNRWA issued a pro forma denial and then turned the rockets over to Hamas to use against Israel. Is it time to force UNRWA out of Gaza?
