BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Gaza militants have fired over 40 rockets at southern Israel since a military ground operation began late Thursday, Israel's army said.

Twenty rockets were intercepted while 25 landed in Israel, with no reports of casualties.

The al-Qassam Brigades claimed responsibility for firing 10 grad missiles at Ashdod early Friday and two M75 rockets at Dimona.

Hamas' military wing also said it targeted Israeli military vehicles in Beit Lahiya with 10 mortar shells.

One Israeli soldier has been killed and five injured since Israel's ground assault began.

Islamic Jihad claimed it's military wing fired four grad missiles at Ashdod and 16 mortar shells in eastern Khan Younis, adding that one of their fighters was killed in southern Gaza.

Another three "107" missiles were fired at the Israeli town of Kisufim.
