GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Four members of a Palestinian family were killed in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday afternoon amid intense Israeli shelling in the area.

Medics told Ma'an that Mahmoud Zuwaid, his wife Daliah Zuwaid, and their children Nagham, 3, and Ruyah, 2, were killed in the attack.

Another woman who was not yet identified was also killed in the same shelling.

At least ten shells were fired around the Beit Hanoun Hospital, injuring many and causing extensive damage in the area.

The hospital was hit directly by Israeli shells on on Friday, damaging the roof and third floor and hitting the hospital's water supplies.

The area of the hospital targeted contained a ward for children, a reception area, and the offices of several doctors, but the strike led to no injuries.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization said that Gaza hospitals were running dangerously low on medicine, as the seven-year long Israeli economic blockade of the Strip meant that even before the current crisis began 30 percent of medicines were out of stock.

The five deaths brought the total death toll in Israel's 12-day offensive in the Gaza Strip to 326, nearly 100 of which have occurred in the last 48 hours.

Was it the Israeli seige, or the PA failure to deliver the medicines and supplies paid for by the European community, that resulted in the lack of stock?

@Bemused- The shortage of meds cannot entirely be blamed on either PA failure or the siege. 1stly, the shortage in gaza is long standing, tho' the siege has far worsened it. Per WHO, the shortage is due to econ problems [created by occupation euro doen't pay for it all], lack of PA-hamas cooperation, Israel's blockade which creates bureaucratic transportation obstacles. Also there's a shortage of fuel to run hospitals/ambulances and limited electricity. [see the dead baby? not amusing]

As a tax paying European I am glad that a Kiwi like you is worried about what happens with the EU funding for the Palestinian Territories. *irony off* You do know that Israel solely controls what goods can enter the Gaza Strip, or do you not? To answer your question: Yes, it is the bloody siege that causes shortage it essential goods such as medicine.

I am very very sorry for the role of my government in helping to perpetuate this continued death of a thousand cuts of real live humans by a self- centered politically blind rogue state of Israel. I have contacted my senator and representative and expressed my outrage. As for the father, husband, Mahmoud Zuwaid, I grieve for your losses. May all show you mercy and kindness in this time of troubles. This I pray. As for Bemused...how in the heck can you be so callous? What does it matter?

All the champions of Human Rights campaigners are dead in case of ext?remely cruelty of illegal son of a Negro of America Natanyahoo against unarmed civilians in Gaza without any break. The immediate neighbour's are also disgracefully witnessing the mass killings of Palestanians. Consequently it is derived that they are all supporters of the aggressor who care not any one in the world. The UNITED Nations has also failed go stop the massacre of the Palestanians.

Where is uncle Sam the Champion of Human Rights watching the aggression of his elegtimate son disguised as Natanyahoo. Similarly the case with disgraced Muslim states boasting as champions to protect so called their Islam. The UN has been miserably failed to protect the innocent Palistanians.
