WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday renewed its ban on American flights to Tel Aviv for another 24 hours, citing the "potentially hazardous situation" in Israel and Gaza.

It first imposed the ban on Tuesday, then renewed it at 1615 GMT with a Notice to Airmen, or NOTAM, that it said would be updated "within 24 hours."

In a press statement, the FAA added that it is "working closely" with the Israeli government "to review the significant new information they have provided and determine whether potential risks to US civil aviation are mitigated so the agency can resolve concerns as quickly as possible."

The FAA prohibited US airlines from going into or out of Ben Gurion International Airport, Israel's only international hub, after a Hamas rocket struck a neighborhood to the north of the airport.

I am ashamed of our Secretary of State and our current President. They don't think or act in the best interest of our ally Israel or the best interest for the United States. Instead of condemning Hamas and threatening it with international retaliation for shooting at international airplanes, Kerry gives Hamas a political advantage and a political disadvantage to Israel. Wrong approach. Wrong decisions by our government. Wrong leadership.

American government should not be hostage to Israel policies. Its a powerful country that can influence many countries for the good of mankind.

#1 - Aww diddums, things not going your way? Shame. Please try to stop that bottom lip of yours from quivering - it doesn't become you... BTW, can you point me in the direction of the reports that Hamas has been shooting at international planes 'cos I seem to have missed that one!

I call it an economic sanction against Israel even if it wasn't admitted publicly. Privately Obama probably pressure the FAA to impose that restriction. Economically is a devastating decision by the US against Israel for their violent approach in Gaza and their "off target pinpoint operation" in Gaza that killed many civilians.

@3) "Can you point me in the direction of the reports that Hamas has been shooting at international planes 'cos I seem to have missed that one!" You post here and haven't read Ma'an News reports? @4) I agree with you. Isn't isn't it shameful that on one hand Kerry promises $47 million to a terrorist organization, Hamas, and at the same time he causes economic strife to our ally, Israel, for defending itself against terrorist aggression? This speaks volumes about Obama & Co.

To Levi #1. The Evon affair, the attack on the 'Liberty,' Jonathan Pollard, her attempts to embroil us in an evil war with Iran, the general destruction of America's standing in the Middle East and in the world in general... Israel is 'our ally' like the syphilis spirochete is your body's friend. As to shame... Please, if Israel is your country, go there. If the US is your country, stop betraying it.

To Levi #6: 'Isn't isn't it shameful that on one hand Kerry promises $47 million to a terrorist organization, Hamas...' Nu? We give three billion a year plus all kinds of perks to a certain Nazi state I could name. What's $47 million for mere 'terrorists'? 'Terrorists,' I will point out, who have never struck outside of Israel.

Re my own post #8. For 'Evon affair' read 'Lavon affair.' It came out that in 1954 Israel had planted a bomb in a US facility in Egypt with the intent of making it appear Egyptians had attacked America. It was kind of a dry run for the Liberty fiasco.
