GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The al-Mujahidin Brigades, the military wing of the al-Mujahidin Palestinian movement, published pictures of Israeli soldiers’ belongings they seized during the offensive on Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

The al-Mujahidin Brigades said they seized these belongings after the Beit Hanoun operation, where they clashed with soldiers with machine guns in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Our fighters had a bloody war with the enemy, and they insist on winning the fight.”

The brigades had earlier claimed responsibility for clashing with Israeli forces in eastern Beit Hanoun last Sunday.

While I am totally opposed to violence, I recognize the need of armed resistance when all else fails. This was the case of Gaza, without any doubt. Peaceful negotiations were always dismissed by Israel, while continuing to oppress them and take the land of West Bank Palestinians. And I must say, I am quite surprised of how well prepared the resistance is. Even IDF was taken by surprise. Losing ~65 soldiers is something beyond their worst nightmares. More so, IDF fought like cowards.

Having a sit-in inside a gas chamber is useless. In facing an intractable enemy bent on the liquidation of the physical and cultural presence of an ethnic group in the land of their territorial origin, violence is not a choice. It's the only means of survival.
