JERUSALEM (AFP) -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Monday that Israel will hit back hard if Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza resume, speaking just hours before the midnight expiry of a five-day ceasefire.

"We are ready for all scenarios ... the army is ready to respond with force if the firing (of rockets) resumes," he said in a meeting with Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon in Ashdod, a statement said.

Netanyahu's warning came as the clock ticked down to a midnight deadline in Gaza and as Palestinian and Israeli negotiators held crunch indirect talks in Cairo.

The aim is to broker a long-term arrangement to halt more than a month of bloody fighting which erupted on July 8, and that has killed 2,016 Palestinians and 67 on the Israeli side, most of them soldiers.

But Netanyahu said the offensive dubbed Operation Protective Edge, aimed at stopping rocket attacks from Gaza and destroying Hamas's attack tunnels, "will continue until its objective has been met... restoring calm and security" to Israel.

I bet that man is sitting home wishing for Hamas to launch a rocket attack at Israeli cities to give him a reason to retaliate. And he is talking about Hamas hiding behind civilians, when he is using his own people to lure Hamas by stalling and provoking them to launch their rockets.

Ben Gurion: "If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal: we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?" quoted from Goldman, Nahum 1999; Le Paradoxe Juif, edition MJR, Vesenaz. S. 121

Hard - hit back hard? They have already killed more than 2,000 - what does he want for his re-election - another 2,000 dead Palestinians - bomb all the mosques, all the schools, all the clinics! He will join a long line of terrorists who justified conquering others because he scratched his finger!

When are people going to stop attacking Israel for defending itself. Why should they have to live with a steady stream of rockets pitched at them?
