JERUSALEM (AFP) -- Israel on Tuesday ordered the military to respond after three rockets from Gaza struck the south as the two sides were observing a 24-hour truce, an Israeli official said.

Speaking to AFP, the official said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "ordered the IDF to attack terror targets in Gaza" in response to the fire, which saw three rockets hit near the southern city of Beersheba that is home to some 200,000 people.

A new 24-hour ceasefire in Gaza will last until midnight on Tuesday under a last-minute deal reached in Cairo on Monday night.

Egyptian mediators have been pushing both sides to put a decisive end to weeks of bloodshed in Gaza, which has killed more than 2,000 Palestinians and 67 on the Israeli side, mostly soldiers.

But few details have emerged of the state of the negotiations given the apparently irreconcilable demands of the two sides.

Irreconcilable, because Israel refuses to comply with international law

"Israel" again is telling the world: Look, Hamas started again. And again lets forget we ("Israel") attacked first and not one time. After all, nobody was killed yesterday and the day before yesterday, so it never happened, right?

#4 it's not for lack of trying! Hey 2000 rockets killed " only" 3 people. You do the math, if you can.

Whats Amazing is that Israel invests it power and money into protecting its citizens with shelters, warnings, and the protective dome. Hamas on the other hand has invested its citizens into protecting its power. Israel has more power, and better shields - but that doesnt mean Israel should sit back while Hamas fires rockets at civilians with intentions on harming civilians. Please dont blind yourself of the "small" details to justify yourself.

Would it be better if a few people died? Should Israel drop its guard, push its citizens to die, to justify its Actions?

Lots of poor reasoning among responders, who seem to think Hamas' goal with rockets is to miss. Actually, Hamas would like to deal death and destruction with the rockets on a large scale, if possible. Just because it is not possible does not mean Israel needs to accept such attacks.

Here we go again -Mashal back to his cozy hotel in Qatar, Hania safe in his tunnel network, Hamas firing rockets at Israeli cities from behind civillians, and all of them hoping for maximum Palestinian casualties, preferably children, then to bask in the glory of world sympathy.

Israel will not negotiate meaningfully and will continue to flout international law because it so powerful and has the backing of the USA. Only world action can bring a new perspective
