TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- Gunmen opened fire at the second deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council on Thursday, the official told Ma'an.

Hasan Khreisha told Ma'an that four gunshots hit his Mercedes shortly after he left his home in Tulkarem.

"I am not accusing anybody at all, but this wasn't a warning message telling me to remain silent, but rather a real assassination attempt," he said.

Khreisha was only 200 meters from the home of Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah at the time of the shooting.
